A group of students from Blue Ridge Elementary School took time to exhibit their 2016 Gold Award for Greatest Gains from the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement. Blue Ridge Elementary School learned they earned gold status through the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) Jan. 5.

A new city map, an upcoming condemnation hearing and a report that showed arrests have more than doubled, were all discussed at the McCaysville City Counil meeting Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Fannin County High School standout Logan Holt makes a high-flying move to the rim against Gilmer High School on Saturday, Jan. 14, in Blue Ridge. The senior scored a game-high 25 points as the Rebels (7-9, 0-5 Region 7-AAA) completed a season sweep over the Bobcats with a 57-52 win.

Fannin County Recreation Director Eddie O’Neal

Eddie O’Neal is now the permanent director of the Fannin County Parks and Recreation Department after a vote of the county commission board Jan. 4.

Obituaries

Gary Carter “Cracker” Reichert, 59, of Blue Ridge, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at his home after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Louise Reichert.

Barbara Sue Bailey Douthit, age 79, of Winder, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at Grace Health Care in Tucker, Georgia. 

Othella Minnie Key, age 84, of Blue Ridge, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at her home.
