It is open enrollment time for insurance coverage under Obamacare.  This means that is time to sign up for coverage or to renew your coverage if you already have it.

The Rotary Club of Blue Ridge met Tuesday, Nov. 29, participating in National Giving Day when funds the club raised were given to a number of local charities. Snack in a Backpack was given $5,000 from Rotary and presented a companion check by the Blue Ridge Lodging Association (BRLA). The $10,000 donated by the BRLA came from proceeds raised during the annual Blues & Barbecue Festival.

Fannin County Farm Bureau is encouraging sixth, seventh and eighth grade students to enter the 2017 Georgia Farm Bureau Middle School Essay Contest.


Prisila Bautista looks to pass for the Fannin County Middle School eighth-grade basketball team. Bautista scored six points in the Lady Rebels’ 55-6 win over Union County on Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Blairsville.

The Fannin County Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team is off to a hot start in 2016, winning the the first six games of the season to record a perfect 6-0 record. 

Bryson Kimsey jumps for a rebound in recent action for Copper Basin. The sophomore scored 13 points in a tough, 61-52 loss to Hiwassee Dam on Monday, Nov. 28, in North Carolina.

Turnovers and a defensive lapse in the second quarter led to the first loss of the season for the Copper Basin High School boys basketball team Monday, Nov. 28, at Hiwassee Dam. 

Maleah Stepp elevates for a layup as Towns County’s Kristen Henson looks on. Stepp, a sophomore, had team highs in assists and steals with four each to go along with four points in the win.

Using a suffocating defense and balanced scoring attack, the Fannin County High School girls basketball team took down Towns County in dominant fashion, 60-22, Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Hiawassee. 


Luther James Rhodes, age 93 of Morganton, passed away Nov. 13, 2016, at Life Care Center of Copper Basin. 

Clara Marlene German, age 80, of McCaysville, passed away Nov. 24, 2016, at Life Care Center of Copper Basin. 

Mrs. Kathryn Franklin Waters, formerly of Blue Ridge, passed away on Nov. 27, 2016, at her daughter’s home in Fayetteville, Georgia.
